Hiking on the

Bruce Peninsula

The Bruce Trail is renowned around the world as one of the best hiking experiences you can have, and with good reason. The terrain is varied and offers a challenge for hikers of all ability levels, and the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. As an experienced hiker with intimate knowledge of the local area, at any point during your stay I can provide advice and recommendations for hikers looking to discover new locations and see the sights that the Bruce Peninsula has to offer.

Hiking the Bruce Trail on the Northern Bruce Peninsula

The Bruce Trail is Canada's oldest and longest marked footpath. Running along the Niagara Escarpment in southern Ontario, it spans more than 890 km of main Trail and over 400 km of associated side trails. Hiker's Heron Bed & Breakfast, in Dyers Bay, ON, is ideally situated for hiking the Bruce Trail on the Northern Bruce Peninsula. From the B&B doorstep it is a three minute walk to Harkins Sidetrail, 117.8 km on Bruce Trail Map #40. This 65 metre side trail connects to the main Bruce Trail, go left and you are headed south towards Cape Chin and Lion's Head. Go right and you are headed to High Dump, Halfway Dump and Tobermory. Be sure to follow the white blazes. There are also many side trails on the Northern Bruce Peninsula that provide wonderful opportunities for nature and wildlife viewing.

Bruce Trail Side Trails - follow the Blue Blazes

There are many side trails off the main Bruce Trail that are looped hikes, generally taking the hiker through wooded areas to inland lakes and wetlands where you will discover great opportunities for nature and wildlife viewing and birdwatching. I have listed a number of side trails very close to Hiker's Heron Bed & Breakfast, but there are many more to enjoy on the Northern Bruce Peninsula.
